MICHIGAN TRANSFER AGREEMENT (MTA)
KBOCC is a signatory of the Michigan Transfer Agreement (MTA), which facilitates a transfer of general education requirements between Michigan colleges and universities. Students may complete the MTA requirements as part of their degree programs or as a stand-alone set of courses.
To fulfill the Michigan Transfer Agreement, students must successfully complete at least 30 credits, with at least a 2.0 in each course and at least one credit completed at the institution awarding the MTA. These credits should be met according to the following distribution:
-One course in English Composition
-A second course in English Composition or 1 course in Communications
-One course in Mathematics from one of three pathways: College Algebra, Statistics or Quantitative Reasoning
-Two courses in Social Sciences (from two disciplines)
-Two courses in Humanities and Fine Arts (from two disciplines excluding studio and performance classes)
-Two courses in Natural Sciences including one with laboratory experience (from two disciplines)
Courses transferred from other colleges may be counted toward the requirements as well as courses completed here.
Beginning in Fall 2015, current students’ transcripts will be routinely evaluated for MTA certification. Former students may request an MTA evaluation and may also transfer courses from other colleges to meet MTA requirements without being readmitted or re-enrolling.

KBOCC values its partnerships with other colleges and universities and is committed to supporting students who plan to continue their education after KBOCC.
Current and prospective students interested in transferring may meet with the appropriate Department Chair for information and assistance related to available articulation agreements and transfer pathways.

INSTITUTIONAL REVIEW BOARD
The Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College Institutional Review Board (IRB) has been established to approve research projects involving the use of human and animal subjects. The IRB exists both because KBOCC wants to ensure that research subjects are treated with the utmost respect and safety and because federal law requires that all federally funded research involving human participants receive IRB approval. The research projects concerned include not only standard research but in-class research and service learning projects as well, and extend to journals and photographs, video and tape recordings of participants.
